Month: March 2001

  • THE END OF MONTH 2......

I made through my first two months of pregnancy.  I am 9 weeks today and starting my third month.   So what did our lovely little baby accomplish in it's 8 week of development?

    WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH OUR BABY....

Our baby's head is quite big, due to the rapid growth of the brain. The upper limbs resemble paddles. Our baby-to-be's heart began to separate into four chambers, and blood is circulating throughout the body. Intestines formed within the umbilical cord, but will later migrate back into the abdominal cavity. Foot plates, with the beginnings of toe rays, have appeared. The external ears are now present. Our baby is now 10 to 13 millimeters long -- about the size of a cherry. The cells that will become either testes or ovaries arrive, but there is no obvious sign of gender yet. Muscle contractions are now evident, but these early "movements" are not yet perceptable.

    WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH ME............

Still feeling a little tired, but better.  Nausea is starting to improve a bit as well.   I have had to switch to loose clothes due to discomfort.  ARGH!!  I have trouble with indigestion and constipation.

  • YOU HAVE NAMES PICKED OUT ALREADY????

Well actually my hubby and I have been talking about having a baby since before we were married.   I suffered from infertility so it was alot of dreaming on our part.   It was our way of keeping our dream alive.   So to be honest we had two boy and two girl names already picked out when I got pregnant.   I still try to change my hubby's mind and offer new names.....but he is set...LOL!!  So Thomas and Jenna it is!

  • Names for Our Baby:

    Boy = Thomas George
    Girl = Jenna Mae

  • Finally, an end to this day! I had to pick up my oldest from school as he was running a fever. This was fine with me since I was feeling terrible myself. I ended up at urgent care with a sinus infection. I had to go tonight as I need to be at work tomorrow. If Josh has a fever tomorrow he will be going to the peds as well. He seems to get fevers off and on and they are always viral. So we decided to wait a day. My hubby is off getting my prescription filled and my head is throbbing so I think it is time for me to go to bed!! NIGHT!!!

  • WHAT DOES OUR BABY LOOK LIKE??

Well there is not a consensus as to what the baby looks like.  We have a book called "Your Pregnancy Week By Week" by Glade B. Curtis.   It is a great book.  The boys love to look at the picture of the actual size of the baby for the current week, etc.

The verdict is out, my hubby says during week #7 the baby looks like a salad shirmp.   Erik is sure it looks like a little dinosaur!    Josh just acts like the baby would, since they don't have any arms.   What a goof!

We have a lot of fun with the book and it really is a great way to include the older children!

  • WHAT HAPPENED DURING WEEK #7:

Our baby had a growth spurt during week 7.  They grew from 4 to 5 mm at the beginning of the week to 11 to 13 mm by the end of the week.  So I think 11 to 13 mm is about .44 to .52 inches.

Leg buds are beginning to appear as short fins.  The arm buds grew longer and have divided into hand segment and an arm-shoulder segment.  The hand an foot have digital plate where the fingers and toes will develop.

The heart bulges from the body.  The heart has divided into the right and left chambers.  The primary bronchi are present in the lungs.  The cerebral hemishperes are growing.  Eyes and nostrils are developing.   The intestines, appendix and pancreas are present.

As for me, I am still very tired and sleep alot and eat alot.  I am fighting off a cold right now, so that doesn't help.  I have gained about 2-3 pounds and am still in regular clothes though I love getting into my sweat as soon as I am home from the office!

  • Well this last weekend we did tell our sons about the baby.   The poem before we typed up on some baby stationery and our oldest son read it.   Erik our youngest heard the poem three times but didn't get it.  Our oldest got it right away, so he tried to help Erik.   After they read the poem I gave Erik a present to open.  It was a book, called, "I'm a Big Brother".   Taped to the book was a red heart in which we wrote, "Erik is a Big brother!!  I am so happy you are my big brother!  We will have so much fun together!!"   He still didn't get it, and so I said Erik who's big brother are you???   He wasn't sure, well since we are having a baby you will be the babies big brother!!!  The lightbulb came on and he said "really, your having a baby????"  Yep,  Really???"    Then just as I knew he would say, "How did the baby get there?"    Hmmm...where did my hubbby go now??  No help when you need him!  Erik is 8 years old......

As for Joshua our almost 13 year old.  He was so very excited!!  He was all smiles.   He said he knew already since I was eating so much and puking so much.  LOL!!!   We gave Josh a baby board book called "I'm A baby!"  Attached to it was a note saying, "Josh you will be a wonderful big brother to me.  I look forward to all the books you will read me and all the things you will teach me!!"

It was a wonderful moment for us all..................

  • This is a little ditty we wrote for our sons as part of how we are telling them about the baby this weekend. I have a bit more to do.....:-)

    To my BIG BROTHERS!!!!

I wish that I could be with you ,
    On this very special day,
    To laugh with you,
    To play with you,
    And pass the time away.

    But since that isn't possible,
The next best thing to do is,
To pass this wish for happiness,
    From Mommy's tummy to you.

    See you In October, guys!!!

  • WHAT OUR BABY ACCOMPLISHED DURING WEEK #6:

Our baby's length is now about 3.0 to 5.0 mm -- about the size of a peppercorn! The brain has formed three separate parts: the forebrain (memory and reasoning), the midbrain (translates messages from the brain to organs and limbs) and the hindbrain (regulates breathing and muscle movement). At this point the embryo is now three-dimensional and completely enclosed in the amniotic sac.

Our baby's heart is now beating and blood circulation is evident. The kidneys and liver are growing fast, and the neural tube, which connects the brain with the spinal cord, closed.

The placenta is rapidly developing, however, it will not take over hormone production until about week 12.

As for me, I am feeling pretty good.  I am not having much morning sickness at all.   I am really tired though, so that takes it toll on me.   We are telling our sons this weekend about the baby.   I look forward to their reactions.    I have not entirely figured out *how I will tell them yet.

I felt it was best to tell my ex-hubby before I tell my son since I wanted him to hear from me and not Josh.  I was a coward and did tell him in email, which I know he read, but he never responded to.  I am not sure on how he took it.

I am now 7 weeks pregnant and this week, the baby will double in size.

  • The names have been chosen and agreed upon! My hubby wants to name the baby after his Uncle George if it is a boy. If it is a girl she will named after me and my mother.
