  • Just picked up the kids from daycare.  I left early before they were up.   Erik had on....heavy pants and he was very hot.   It is so discouraging that Erik still can not pick out weather appropriate clothes on his own and he is going into middle school.   We have had numerous talks over the summer about this.   I refuse to lay out his clothes.  If he choses to wear pants, he will be hot, natural consequences.  Maybe then he will finally figure it out.   I have really taken the stance this summer that he will do the same chores as us and lay out his own clothes.   Last night he actually thanked me for teaching him how to wash clothes.   He needs to be challenged in areas like this so he can improve.    There has been too many years of him being treated like a baby.    I refuse to continue that trend.

Things Erik has learned to do over the summer:

Cut his own finger and toe nails
Cut his own Food (though he will ask me to do it alot)
    Wash clothes
Sort clothes (though he isn't very good at it)
    Clean the bathroom
    Sweep and Mop Floors
Put his own sheets on his bed
Wash dishes (not very good either)

Maybe Erik will never be a college graduate, but he will be able to take care of himself if it is the last thing I do.   he everyone does things for him he has no reason to try.  Now if we can just master sort of dressing for the weather I would be happy.   I still lay out his clothes for church because he will still go get a sweater and dockers when it is 90 out for church because those are his church clothes.  ARGH!!

  • Home from work...which is nice, but ready for a nap....

  • Day #1 of my experiement.....

The experiement I hate, but is good for everyone in the end.  ARGH!   I am attempting to switch my work hours to 7:00 to 3:00.   My employer will let me do what ever I want, it is me that is the problem.  I am a terrible morning person!  But it is 7:17 and I am typing this from work...so I made it today.   They say it takes what like 30 days to develop a habit??   Can I live through 30 days???  lOL!!

THere are so many pros to being to work earlier.

    • The traffic is lighter - only took about 25 minutes to drive to work.

    • I will get off at 3:00, home around 3:30 and I have until 5:30 to run errands and do household chores.

    • My evenings will be able to be spent with my kids and not doing chores!

    • Plenty of time to make supper.

    The cons.....

    I hate getting up early!

  • The other thing that bugged me today about the appointment with the psychologist was that some of the things he was saying about the IEP, OT and private therapies were completely WRONG.   I didn't say anything, but he didn't seem to be too knowledgable about the IEP or qualifications for OT, etc.   He just does not have the expertise we need.  On the way out he tells my hubby and I how complicated and challenging it is to figure out what is wrong with Erik.  DUH!   Not like we haven't been struggling since he was in kindergarten.  We of all people know something is wrong with him, I just wish the "professionals" could figure out what it is.    Way more frustrating to me than it is to my hubby.

The other things that is interesting, some things I and Erik's mother report, and we see similair things, my hubby will say well I haven't experienced that.  Which I just say ok....but the truth of the matter is Eriks' mother and I are his primary caregivers.  Hubby doesn't do alot of the day to day reminders and cares of Erik even when he is at home and he is gone at work alot so it would make sense that he doesn't see alot of the same behaviors.

  • OUR WEEKEND:

Saturday was very busy.  We hit the library and got groceries.  All three boys wanted to come along.  Then it was home to clean up a bit.   Erik took a bit of an attitude, not entirley sure what is going on there.   My brother and SIL came in the afternoon.  I went shopping at Target and Best Buy with them while Tommy napped.

We had a big supper and hung out for a bit.  They then headed to their hotel room for the night.  Tommy didn't sleep very well and I ended up getting up with him 4 times and laying down with him in his bed.

Sunday my brother and SIL were over bright and early and Paul took them to the airport.   We then went to church.  I stayed at church for a committee meeting.  Hubby called to talk to his brother since he was having some personal troubles.  Hubby went and picked up his brother and he spent the day with us.   We are hoping he will take our truck so he will have a vehicle.   We will see how that goes.  I made some spare ribs on Sunday and they turned out so tough!  ARGH!!  I will have to work on perfecting that recipe.

Sunday afternoon I worked on my Christmas Notebook and watched my neice and nephew until supper time.  We also watched the movie Duplex, which was pretty good.

MONDAy.....back to work...grrr....Erik had a hearing test in the morning.  I had hubby take him.  I went to work for a while and met them at the psychologists office.   I have very mixed feelings about the appointment, but will let hubby decide how he wants to proceed.  We probably differ on our opinions.   Once again a professioal is saying...something is wrong with Erik, but I don't know what it is and I don't think I can help you.  Gee thanks...move onto Dr # whatever.   Hubby really wants to have auditory processing testing done and we have an appointment with a neurologist.

I am working late tonight.  I just finished my supper so I best get back to work.....
