Month: June 2005

  • Another day....seems like I just left work and I am back again.  Today should go pretty quickly since I only have to work 8 hours.   I am staying pretty on top of my work load so not alot to do.   Have a few phone calls to make, two reports to update and one homevisit today.   I am going on vacation starting June 29th and won't return to work until July 11th.    Our daycare provider is on vacation that week, so I will stay home with my boys.   We are going to visit my family in South Dakota over the July 4th weekend, otherwise I will be home with the boys.   I hope we can do some things.

  • Tommy funny.....

This morning I open the bathroom door and Tommy has jsut gotten up.  I say to him "Good Morning, How are you?"  He puts his little hand to his head and says "I don't want to talk about it!".  It was too funny!  He is just like is momma, definitely not a morning person.

  • Sure wish I had a crystal ball......We still can't decide on this minivan issue.  If we knew this one would make it through the next year without anymore major repairs.  We don't travel that much, so we could rent if we went to SD, etc.   Shorter trips we can cram the kids into the blazer and they have to just deal with it.  It is like russion roulette....will this be the year that it dies or not.  If we guess wrong it is a costly adventure like last year.   Argh.....decisions, decisions...and I just don't know which is the right one.   Do I really want to take on another debt when we are jsut trying to climb out of the hole we are in due to hubby being in school/unemployed and living on my income.  The timing is just not very good and of course I would have to buy a different vehicle that is about 5 years old...what if it needs all the reapirs too.   Hubby doesn't think we can make it one more year, without throwing 500 to 1000 in repairs to our current van and we can't leave town with it as it isn't reliable.   But my stance is can we really afford to take on a van payment with our already tight budget!  I can't make it stretch much more than I am.   I am already very frugal.

Argh...so this car issues is weighing very heavy on my mind right now.   This weekend we are going to my nephews wedding out of town.   Erik is upset he isn't able to go with us.  I hope he has a good weekend anyways.

Today is my last 12 hour day for the week.  I am happy about that.  I didn't get much sleep last night since we sat up debating this vehicle issue until late.     Tommy came into our bed sometime during the night.  Well time to get ready for work....have a great day!

  • Hmm...might have found a 3rd car for $2,700.00.  That should get us through a few more years around town.  Another Geo Prism, but in better shape and newer than ours.   Might have to take a look at it.

  • I hate car troubles and of course it seems like we are always having them.  But then again one car is 13 years old and the other 11 years.  I think we might have to bite the bullet and take a loan for a different vehicle.  I haven't wanted to do that, but the repairs we are putting in a year could make a payment on a newer vevhicle.  So I think we will start doing some looking around for a new van.  I need to stop at the library and do a consumer reports research first, though I think I know what  I want.   We are going on vacation to SD and had to rent a van to go since my truck won't hold us all and none of our other vehicles are trust worthy that far away.  Hmmm...maybe I will look in SD and see if they are cheaper there.   The rental alone is about the equivalent of two months payments on a different van.   I will probably go to the credit union this week sometime and see what I can get preapproved for.    I am hoping that we can sell the other two cars for enough to buy a third car for around $3,000.00.  Nothing great just something to have for Josh and our extra vehicle.     We really are in need of two newer vehicles.  I would be nice to be able to purchase at least a 2000 model, but we will see what happens.  So wish us luck...I hate to have to do it, but it seems like it will be more cost effective in the long run to do this now.   The deciding factor for me was that we spent over $2,000 in repairs last year and that would be almost the years payment on a vehicle that costs about $14,000.  ARGH!!  So if anyone has any advice on a good minivan. let me know.   I would like to look at a used Toyota Sienna.  My friend says she has had terrible trouble with their Dodge Caravan, has anyone else had trouble with theirs???

Not much else going on....still need to finish up paperwork for my 7:00 meeting tonight.   I had weigh in today, but maintained....didn't gain nor lose.   Later!

  • Naptime......We went to Sears and bought hubby a drill, but didn't get to go to Toys R Us on the way out of the store, Erik stubbed his toe on the door and was hurting.  So we went home.  Poor kid...but he seems much better now.   Tommy and I ran to Target and got charcoal and another little gift for hubby.   We also bought everything to make another ice cream cake, which I will need to start here shortly.   I have alot to do yet today, so I better take advantage of nap time.  Once Tommy wakes up we will probably spend the rest of the evening playing in the wading pool.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Father's Day!

  • HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!

Today is going to be pretty low keyed I hope!    I am letting hubby sleep in today.  He is still sleeping as is Erik.    I am going to make some pancakes for breakfast and then we will take hubby shopping at Sears for a new drill.   His broke and will only go in reverse so he needs a new one.   I am also going to stop at the store and buy ice cream to make an ice cream cake.  Hubby's new favorite treat!!

I also hope to stop at a Toy R Us in Roseville that is closing to look for deals for Christmas.  Erik needs a new bike for the summer.....and I want to find some Leappad games for Christmas for Tommy.  I also want to see if they have a VSmile on clearance as that is what I want to get Tommy for Christmas.  I already have his birthday present and I know what we are getting Erik for his brithday, just haven't picked it up yet.    So we will see what we all find for Christmas.

Otherwise we will be relaxing at home.  I have a few things around the house I really need to get to today.

  • This weekend is so busy...I didn't have a chance to get on the computer yesterday at all.   But we had a great day!    We got up and got ready to go to the church garage sale and library.   We found a number of great deals at the garage sale.   I bought a book I wanted Gilead for 75 cents.   They had a few other ones too, but I am trying to get the ones I have read right now, so didn't want to add alot more.  But it is my weakness that is for sure.  I found Erik a cool pair of tennis shoes.  The ones he had from school were just all ripped up and I didn't want to buy him new ones yet for school so these should get him through until we go school shopping.  I also found him three pairs of jean shorts and two shirts.   Tommy I found a pair of snow boots, a sweater and pjs.  Tommy also got a pirate costume and three spiderman cartoons which he loves.   Hubby found some glasses that match a partial set we have that we use at Christmas.  So everyone found at least one treasure.   Then we went to the library and picked reserves, etc.

    Tom's the Pirate!

Then we hurried home and the boys changed clothes so we could go to the graduation party.  We were there from like 1:30 until 5:00 or so.  It was great.  My SIL, Bonnie went with us too.   Hubby and Bonnie saw alot of people from their childhood.   The graduation was for hubby's friend from childhood.    Great time!

Tommy napped briefly on the way home, but then wouldn't go back to sleep.  I ran to Target and got some sunscreen for him and then the boys played in the wading pool.

    MUSCLE BOY!

Tomm played in the water until 8:00.  Then I took him to bathe him since he breaks out so badly from the sunscreen.   Then our neighbors started coming over for the first official bonfire of the year.

    Hubby starting his fire........

We turned on the tunes in the garage and sat in the back yard and enjoyed the fabulous evening with 10 neighbors/friends.   We chatted and chatted until 2:30am!   YIKES!!  It was a great time.   We have the best neighborhood in the world.    Such fun people and good friends.

Erik is still grounded from bonfires so he wasn't able to be out enjoying the fire this time.  Tommy was out for a bit, but once it gets dark I don't like him by the fire.   He went to bed around 10:00 or so in his own bed.

Ok...this is getting to be a long post....I will start a new one for today!
