Month: September 2005

  • My chairs are now done!!!  YEAH!!  Now to clean off the dining room table and be able to eat here more often.  This table is a huge hot spot, that is for sure!   I hope to get that done this evening yet.  I don't think I will be getting to my baking tonight...oh well...another day I guess.   I am just so glad to have my chairs all done.

Hubby and I went to Home Depot this afternoon to look at paint samples and look at area rugs.   Those are the last two things I will do to spruce up around here before the open house in June.   The accent wall is in again....but has change colors.  Hmmm....who knows that the finished product will be!

Off to wake Tommy up from his nap...

  • My Morning Accomplishments.......

I finished two chairs so I have a total of 4 of my dining room chairs completely done!  YEAH!!    I have the piping sewed for the other two and the material all cut out.  I jsut have to have hubby help me recover the seats.  It takes a few extra hands.

Now I will make some lunch and get supper in the crockpot.  Then I have to fun to Home Depot to buy some more staples and get some more paint samples.   I have yet to decide how I will paint my livingroom.  One minutes I like the accent wall idea and the next I don't.     Hmm......I jsut want to spruce things up a bit before Josh's Open House for his graduation in June.   I want to get all the things done around here early to eleviate some of the stress.

    Well off to make lunch.....later!

  • Good Morning....Happy Monday!   It is a good Monday since I don't have to work!

    YESTERDAY

Hubby was outside with Tommy alot last night.  That helped me out and I could get some dishes done and things.  During nap time hubby and I recovered two dining room chairs.  I still need to sew the piping and screw them back together.  We have two more chair seats to receover today.   I really want to have them completely done by bedtime tonight!  That is my goal!

I went to bed with Tommy, but he didn't fall asleep until almost 10:00.  Hubby then put him to bed and we watched the movie The Ring 2 until almost 1:00am.  WHEW...we never stay up that late.  At the end of the movie Tommy woke up and crawled in bed with us. He slept with us the rest of the night.

    TODAY

Tommy and I are up, but hubby is still sleeping.  So far this morning I have put away Erik's clothes and the downstairs towels.   I had some breakfast and brought my sewing machine up to start owrking on recovering the piping for the dining room chairs.   I hope to get these chairs all done today.  We really need to be able to use our dining tables as our kitchen table is too small.   We have too many people over for supper to eat at the small table.

We hope to go to the park today and havea little picnic with Tommy.  He loves that!  Other than that I will try to finish up my TO DO LIST!

JEN'S TO DO LIST FOR MONDAY:

    • Finish dining room chairs  -DONE
    • Laundry  - Few Loads Done!
    • Bake breakfast bars and bread
    • Clean off Dining Room table and finish shelf  - DONE
    • Add recipes to site from this week

    TOMORROW

Tommy starts preschool tomorrrow.  I will drop him off in the morning and then hubby will pick him up on his lunch break from work and take him to daycare.  We do what we can to make this work, since we believe it is so important for him to be in preschool.   He will have three years of preschool before starting Kindergarten.   We are working at home to learn to id the letters of the alphabet.  We are working on A-F and he knows them all but has trouble with C and D so we are working on those a week longer.  We read books related to the letters and point up the letter in the book.  So far it is working out well.  He loves to learn.   Hubby loaded a matching game on the computer for him yesterday that helps with vocabulary and he can do it at the hardest level.   He is a smart cookie.  WOW!   He spells and writes his name as well.

Erik also has his first ortho appointment since getting his braces on.   I am not sure if hubby or I am taking him yet.   It is an extremely busy week for us.  Our evenings are all taken up with open houses and orientations.   Hopefully next week will be a more routine week for us.

SUPPER:  I am going to try the Crockpot Enchiladas and Corn.  I think this is the same recipe that Terri made, I hope it isn't too hot for us.  I looked at the ingredients and it didn't seem like it would be.   Hmm......we will see.

GRATITUDE -  Grateful for snugglebugs.  (what Tommy calls cuddling before going to sleep).

  • Good Afternoon...hope everyone is enjoying their day!

    TODAY

We attended church this morning.  Josh and Amy joined us since their Bible study didn't meet today.   We got Tommy signed up for Sunday School and signed up for Rally Day picnic.   After church we stopped at the grocery store, but the items from yesterday were no longer on sale.  DRATS!   Then it was home to make some lunch.

After lunch Tommy and I layed down for a nap.   My mom called and then I got up from our nap.  Tommy is still sleeping.   Josh has gone to his dad's and hubby is finishing mowing the lawn.   I went outside and read for a little bit and now I am waiting for hubby to come in the house and we are going to finish reupholstering my dining room chairs.  I have the foam and material all cut.  I jsut need him to help pull things tight so I can staple.   I really need to get these done this weekend!    I am having book group at my house later this month and I need the chairs for people to sit on.

Not much else planned for today.   A nice quiet day...........

    TOMORROW

Nothing planned.......aaah....doesn't that sound like a great day!   We rarely have those type of days.

SUPPER - Porkchops,  green beans and rice.

GRATITUDE - My family sitting together at church, fillling our pew.   We were only missing Erik since he was at his moms.  It brings joy to my heart!

  • Believe it or not ...we jsut got home.   We went to the library and picked up some books and 2 movies to watch.   Then we went to Target.  I found what Erik wanted for his birthday and picked that up.   I so got some jeans and socks for my BIL's birthday.   We will havea party at our house to celebrate both of their birthdays later this month.   Then we went to Goodwill.  Alot of people don't know this, but you can find alot of new items at Goodwill since Target donates unsold items to them.   We bought two unopened games for Birthday/Christmas presents.   I of course bought two books.  Sea Glass by Anita Shreve and Bel Canto.   Hubby gets all his work shirts there.  He found 4 nice ones this time.   We also found a new set of drinking glasses.  We needed some more the kids break ours when doing dishes alot.  We always find a couple of great finds.

Then we stopped at Cub Foods.  They were having a three day sale on Chicken breasts.  3 pound bag for 3.98.   I plan on going back tomorrow and buying two more bags.  They have a limit of 2 bags.   We eat alot of skinless chicken breasts.   Now I need to straighten up the house and do dishes.   I will probably cook up some rice and chicken to freeze for future meals.    That always comes in handy.

Terri you asked if the broccoli salad would last for a few days in the fridge.  I would think so, my hubby was eating leftovers of it this morning and it was good.   It never lasts too long around here.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

  • Good Morning.....What a great day, I had a good nights sleep too.  Yeah.

    YESTERDAY

Last night was a quiet evening.  Josh was at work from 4 to 9:30 and Erik is with his mom this weekend.   I really could use a quiet weekend so this is very nice!

Supper Last night......was a hit.   The only thing I would do different is not put the green chilis in the Quesadillas.   I also might substitute vanilla pudding for the yogurt in the parfaits as hubby doesn't like yogurt.  But Tommy and I loved it!  Broccoli salad was a huge hit.    Tommy loves trees, though he prefers them cooked.

Menus 4 Moms recipe Chicken and Cheese Quesadillas

    • 1-2 cups cooked chicken

    • 8 whole wheat tortillas

    • 2 cups Mexican blend cheese

    • 1 can chopped green chilis (opt.)

    • olive oil spray

    • salsa

    • sour cream

Preheat oven to 400°. Spray one side of 4 tortillas with olive oil spray. Lay the tortillas oiled side down on a cookie sheet (you may need to use two sheets or do two batches). Spread chicken and cheese evenly over tortillas. For extra flavor and heat, add a can of chopped green chilis for those who like spicy food. Top with the remaining 4 tortillas and spray the tops with olive oil spray.

Bake until tortillas are crisp and cheese is melted. Remove from oven and slice into triangles with a pizza cutter. Serve with salsa and sour cream.

Menus 4 Moms recipe Vanilla Yogurt and Pineapple chunks

Menus 4 Moms recipe Broccoli Salad

    • 3 cups fresh broccoli florets

    • 3/4 cup cheddar cheese

    • 2 T. chopped onion

    • 3/4 mayonnaise

    • 1/3 cup sugar

    • 1 1/2 T. red wine vinegar or cider vinegar

    • 6 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled

In a large bowl, combine the broccoli, cheese, and onion. Combine the mayo, sugar, and vinegar; pour over the broccoli mixture and toss to coat. Refrigerate at least 4 hours. Just before serving, stir in the bacon.

Tommy played outside most of the evening wih daddy.  My allergies were really bugging me, so I closed up the house, took a shower and watched the hurricane relief coverage.   It is so hard to watch.   I really breaks my heart.    I dreamed last night about being in the hurricane and woke up really freaked out.

Tommy came in from outside at about 8:25 and I gave him a bath and then we went to bed around 9:00 or so.   He fell asleep after two stories and so did I.  OOOPS.....

    TODAY

Not much planned for today.   We are going to the library this morning.    We also have to stop at Target to get Preschool supplies and sale items at Cub.   I got my medical/daycare reimbursement this mornings so I have enough money to run both of these errands.  YEAH!

I bought 2 cantaloups yesterday for 79 cents each so I am going to cut those up this morning and brown 4 pounds of hamburger for future meals too.  I just love the convenience of having browned hamburger in the freezer.  I hope to get to one of my chairs today and do a bit of laundry too.   This evening I hope to read and not turn on the TV.

    TOMORROW

Tomorrow we have church.   If it is nice we might try and take Tommy to the park for a bit.   Not much else planned yet.    Have a great day!

SUPPER:  Dilled Chicken Salad in Pita Pockets,   Honey Nut Peaches

GRATITUDE:  I am grateful for a quiet weekend with my hubby!

  • Just got home and I put away the cold groceries and now I am taking a little break before I put the rest away.    I am tired!!   I left the house around 9:45 and just got home from running errands.    I went to the City Hall to get tabs for the truck,  the bank, the post office to mail bills and library.   Then I went to Aldi, Rainbow, Sam's and the bread thrift store.   I stayed within the my budget for the most part.  I was $4 over budget but I bought a couple of things that are from the preschool supply list.   I did not buy the two things that were on sale at Cub, but maybe later.   I still have to buy all the preschool supplies, which I forgot to get for the Open House.   I didn't have it in the budget to buy them last week anyways.

I am going to fix myself some lunch and then  I will put away groeries and clean up the house a bit before my hubby gets home.   I can't wait to spend the weekend with him....I miss him today

    SUPPER:  Chicken Quesadillas, Yogurt/Pineapple Parfait

GRATITIUDE:  My hubby.....He is a very sweet man to me.

  • Morning.......another day off for me!  Yeah!  Today I am going to go to Aldi and get groceries and probably hit Rainbow as well.   I also will pay bills since it is payday.   I also plan on conquering some paperwork and weed through that.    Plenty to do.......hope everyone has a great day.  I am off and running.

  • Evening.....I am tired and ready for bed!   I am waiting for Tommy to finish his oatmeal and then we are going to bed.   Erik just got home from playing with friends, now he will have a snack and head to bed as well.   Hubby is at a church meeting that seems to be running late.   Josh is at work........

We almost forgot to go to Tommy's open house.  We were outside playing and then hubby called to remind us.   We went and stayed only for the last few minutes.   Met his teacher and had his picture taken.   He starts school next week Tuesday and will go to preschool on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Tomorrow I am working on organizing our paper stuff around here and updating the calendar with all the new dates that came home from school today.   Fun..fun...fun.....Oh yeah....and I need to get groceries, pay bills and update our budget again.

I'm off to bed....have a great night!!   Good Night!

  • Before I know it the kids will be getting home from their first day of school.   I can't wait to hear how it went.   I am going to get some chocolate chip cookies into the oven so they will be ready when they get home.   Something I try to do for the first day of school.   I sure am tired!   I would like to take a nap before they get home too.

This morning I washed all of Erik's new clothes and reorganized his drawers.  I took two more huge bags of clothes to goodwill.   I threw out 4 pairs of shoes and most of his socks.   All the new stuff is in his drawer and ready to go.   I also stopped at the school.... dropped off a form and talked to the school psychologist.  Someone is suppose to call us next week to plan a meeting to write a transition IEP.

So far a productive day at home!

Off to make some cookies and nap!   Later!
