Month: November 2005

  • As you requested, Kelios, here is the baby blanket I made Monday night for my friends baby shower.   I hope she likes it.

Our Tree....hubby calls it our Christmas Corner, since I only really decorate that corner of the living.  I don't want it to be overbearing.

  • The word of the day......................................TIRED

I got home from work around 10:30 last night.   I talked to my mom on the cell as I drove home.  They have heat and electricity about every two hours for two hours.  They seem to be managing.   I hope they had heat most of the night.  It is cold!   Some towns in SD don't have heat or electric at all.  It sure was a bad ice storm they had.   I hope soon things will be back to normal for them.

I came home and quickly made my Garbanzo Bean salad for the baby shower today.   I need to fold a load of socks this morning and get ready for work.   Tommy is still sleeping.  He of course stayed up with me until I was done making the salad which was about 11:00.  We both fell right to sleep.   I wish I could get him on a better sleeping schedule.

Tonight we have church and not much else.

    SUPPER TONIGHT:  Eating at Church

TO DO TONIGHT: LAUNDRY/MAKE SALAD FOR SUPPER TOMORROW NIGHT - CHURCH

  • Almost 10:00pm...time to call it a night....heading home!   I wish it wasn't such a drive...maybe it will have stopped snowing.  Good Night!

  • Always An Adventure...............

I am getting ready to leave the office to head to Hastings for meeting.  My friend and dear sweet co-worker calls me and asks me if I bought the cake.  What cake??  The one I was going to get for the baby shower tomorrow.   I am sure I didn't agree to do this....but I agree to take care of it after much whining.   How hard can it be to find a cake at 7:30 at night for the next morning??  No luck at the first two stores....  So I call my boss at home, maybe she got a cake!  Nope!  ARGH!!   It was a bit of an adventure, but I finally went to Sam's in Eagan and found a cake and the nice lady there said, "SUre it looks like a cake for a baby shower"..LOL!!   And she stuck on some baby things...LOL!

So that adventure took an hour of my evening when I was suppose to be working.   I just finished eating my supper and now I am going to get some paperwork done.

Hubby left me an email stating my parents are without electricity in South Dakota still.  They have a generator and have the TV and two lamps going.   I hope they will be ok...please pray for them!   The first night they had no heat due to the storms and it was pretty cold I guess.

Also on Thursday my nephew's roommate (the electrician) is coming over to see what he can do for us.  We need alot of electrical work done.  Our house is pretty old.  It will be nice to get it done before the holidays, if he can swing it.   Then we will be moving bedrooms around.   Lots of work!

Gee...I still have to go home and make a salad for the shower tomorrow.  It will be a late night tonight!  Good thing I finished making the baby gift last night.

  • TERRIFIC TUESDAY

Hello -  I am feeling better and getting back on schedule again.  We have a such a busy family, work and church life that I have to stay on schedule to keep my head above water it seems.

I can't believe it is almost December!  YIKES!!   I am trying to cut back a bit on holiday things this year.  I am forgoing the annual secret Santa event at work.  I want to have time for other things.  I will do the section potluck and unit luncheon in December for work, but that is it.  At home I am keeping things about the same.   I will have my 5th Annual Cookies Exchange with my friends at my house.  I will also host Coyan Christmas for about 25 people or so at our house.

Hubby and I kicked off the holiday season on Saturday by going to the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas Concert.   It was pretty good, but I still prefer Trans-Siberian Orchestra.    Then we put up our Christmas Tree and decorated the living room.  I will post pictures later!   Tommy loves to turn out the lights and sit and look at the tree.  We used to do that with him when he was a baby every night.

Today our Family Pictures for the year came in.  I had Christmas cards made this year.  So this weekend I will be updating our Christmas newsletter and getting that into the mail this weekend.  I have almost all my presents bought and mostly wrapped.  I still need to find something for my hubby and Freedom has been out of gas cards for weeks.  I need to buy one for my In-laws.   So things are moving along nicely.

This weekend I might take Erik and Tommy to do their Christmas Shopping.   I might just take one of them this weekend and one next weekend. We will see how it goes.  Tommy seems to be coming down with something.  He has a real croupy cough.

I actually went shopping for myself after Thanksgiving.  I bought myself some new pants for work.  I am officially down one pant size!!  YES!!  Yep, that means a single digit size, baby!  I am so happy about that.   I might drop one more size so I only bought a one pair of pants.   I hope to maintain my weight loss over the holiday season.  We do alot of entertaining and going to parties, so this will be a challenge!

Work is extremely busy.  I am working late tonight.  Hopefully I will work very late and get a lot done.   I wasn't able to work late last night since hubby had to.  I don't like to make Josh watch the boys all night and have to do homework with Erik, etc.  It is a lot to do.   SO I was home to do that...we had a great night and Erik was really good for me.   Things are going much better since hubby had a talk with him.  We are all on the same page now and aware of what was and is going on.

I did get the baby blanket done last night for the baby shower.  I took a picture of it Kelios so I will post that later!  It turned out nice....and easy to make!

I went to the asthma Dr yesterday and got lectured.   He was not happy with me.  BLAH, BLAH, Blah....I always get the inhaler compliance lecture.  I am great at taking my pills, but forget my inhalers.   I am back up on my predisone again and trying to decrease again.   He referred me to the Ophthalmologist and Endocrinologist to have them check me out to ensure there is no damage due to my prolong use of predisone.  Blah..Blah..Blah....Pills are easy to remember.  Each week I set up mine and Erik's meds for the week and neither of us every miss a dose.  I wish the inhalers were easier to remember.  I did use them this morning already.   Be happy Dr Sigford!

Well time to get busy....have a great day!

SUPPER TONIGHT: Thanksgiving in a Pan

TO DO TONIGHT: LAUNDRY/MAKE SALAD FOR BABY SHOWER

  • Offical Weigh In done.....

    Maintained my weight...no gain....no loss....a successful Thanksgiving!

Now to hope that Christmas can be as successful...the average American gains 10 pounds over the holidays....not me...not this year!

  • “Follow your heart, hang on and don’t give up just because everyone else does. There is nobility in being the last one standing, because the persistent few are those who stretch boundaries, set brave new standards and secure the hope for a better tomorrow.”

    M. H. McKee

  • Must make this as a baby gift tonight.....

The “Twice As Warm Blanket” below is a wonderful project for families  — Mom or Dad can do the measuring and scissoring, and the kids can tie the knots.  Fleece fabric can be purchased at local stores, such as Jo-Ann’s, Hancock Fabrics, or Walmart.

    Twice As Warm Blanket
Requires no sewing and can be made in less than 2 hours
Materials for a square blanket:  makes 1 blanket
    1 2/3 yards outerwear fleece – color A
    1 2/3 yards outerwear fleece – color B
(You can also use the same fleece for front and back, just make sure to purchase 3 1/3 yards, and cut the fabric in half width-wise to make two pieces, piece A and piece B, each measuring 1 2/3 yards)

Materials for a larger, rectangular blanket:  makes 1 blanket
    2  yards outerwear fleece – color A
    2  yards outerwear fleece – color B
(You can also use the same fleece for front and back, just make sure to purchase 4 yards, and cut the fabric in half width-wise to make two pieces, piece A and piece B, each measuring 2 yards)

Cut:  Remove selvages (“bound” edges of the fabric on the sides of the fabric that are not cut when you bring the fleece home).

    Directions:
    1.  Place color A fleece on top of color B fleece – WRONG sides together, matching raw edges.  Smooth out any wrinkles and trim so that both pieces are even on all four sides.  You can place a few pins in the fabric to keep the pieces together, but it is not absolutely necessary to do this.

    2.  Cut fringe 5 inches deep, 1 inch wide, on EACH side.  In each corner, you will remove a square of fabric — but that’s OK, you’re supposed to!  Aunt Katherine’s great suggestion:  when cutting the fringe, use a ruler to lay on the fabric (at least one inch wide) as your guide for both how wide the fringe should be and where to cut a straight line.  It works like a charm, and makes it ever so much easier to cut the fringe evenly!

    3.  Using an overhand knot, tie front and back (color A and color B) fringe together.  Continue tying front and back fringe together around the entire blanket.  Be careful not to stretch the fringe when you tie the knots – just do it gently.  That’s it — you’ve made a blanket!

  • Monday....

Another Monday is upon us....I am feeling pretty rested and ready to conquer my desk of junk to do!    I was planning on working late tonight, but won't be able to due to the storm that will be moving in this evening.  I don't want to be out at 10:00 in a storm.  So I think I will come home after my Dr appointment and work from the warmth of my bed for a few hours this evening.

Before leaving for work I need to shower and get some laundry folded.  Our Christmas Tree is all up and decorated.   I haven't caught the holiday feeling yet....hopefully soon.   My annual cookie exchange is coming up so that should help.   Great to have all my friends over.  I have 11 ladies participating I believe.   One of my friends is at the end of her pregnancy and will not be able to come.  She is having a very rough time of it.  We are having her baby shower at work on Wednesday.  I don't have her gift done.  I am going to need to go buy fabric and make it tonight I guess.  Never enough hours in the day!

It is after Thanksgiving weigh in at Weight Watchers today....wish me luck.   I am just hoping to have maintained.   I am off to shower and get going....have a great day!

Check protected posts for later today or week......been meaning to write one!  Life has just been too hectic!

  • I am ready to crawl into bed....but alas that isn't possible.  I have to still fold a load of laundry and wash dishes.   Hubby and I went out last night to the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas Concert so were up later than usual.   Seems to be catching up with me tonight.   I sure wish I could say I feel rested after this vacation, but being sick most of it really didn't help.

Today after church, I went to get groceries and then we set up our Christmas tree and decorated.  It looks nice.....seems there is a storm heading our way.  I got two calls from South Dakota tonight tell us about it.  They are experiencing it now!

Tomorrow is my late night to work.  I also have an appointment with my asthma Dr.  that should be fun....NOT!   I have weigh in tomorrow...I am hoping to have maintained at least over the Thanksgiving holiday...we will see.  I never can tell how I will do...but I realy did try to eat sensibly over the vacation.

Ok...I can't avoid the dishes and laundry any longer....LATER!!!
