Month: December 2002

  • I spent some of the day updating some of my pages.   Seemed very relaxing to do...........

I updated my books Read in 2002 Page and my Jen's Favorite Links Page.

I had been meaning to get back into keeping track of the books I have read as I tend to forget them.  So I included summaries of the books I have read.   Enjoy!

  • Merry Christmas

    From Our Family
    To Yours

Morning!   I woke up early and am steal some quiet time before everyone gets up.  It is now 8:00 am but I don't expect either of my boys to be up for at least on hour.  Josh was still up playing video games last night at 11:00 when Santa was trying to fill the stockings.

It has been such a nice relaxing Christmas.  We went to church last night and then came home and had supper.   After Supper we opened presents.   We each take turns opening one at a time.  Tommy was first and he even ripped some paper this time.  His first gift was a real hit.  It was a Bob the Builder Hammer that counts as you hammer.  He would hit the head of it and smile.   He also tried to hammer me in the head...LOL!!  In the last few days he has been naughty with his other hammer.  He went up to the kitties while they were sleeping on the chair and hammered them in the head.   Argh...was Daddy ever mad at him.  Tommy also received a Sparkling Symphony Orchestra.

Joshua opened his first box, a "Hoodie" (sweatshirt with a hood) and was very excited as that was what he asked for.  He also received three books and Lego Mindstorm Robotics Invention System.  He immediately went to work on programming and building a robot.  I had to finally scoot him to bed at 10:30.  I am glad he likes the gift.

Hubby and I exchange gifts, but we put real low price limits on the gift to see if we can get something meaningful for the cost.   It was a lot of fun last year.  I made a board game for hubby last year and he bought me a cool picture frame that he wrote a poem in.

This year we increased our spending limit to $30.00 and I was having a hard time being creative this year.   I bought him a wallet and a book by Steven Hawkins.   Hubby went to the bookstore and picked me out two books!   I could just see him reading every book jacket trying to figure out what book I would like.  I read a lot of books and he doesn't pay any attention to what I am reading.   But he did very good!   He said he read the cover and if it sounded like a movie we would like to watch together, he said it was a good book for me!  ROFL!!!  Knowing my hubby he read a lot of book descriptions!

Hubby ended up buying me Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold (which I was wanting to read) and Skipping Christmas by John Grisham.   I look forward to reading them both!  I find it so sweet that my hubby went to a bookstore (that alone is cool) and looked for the perfect books for me.  He is a good guy!

I think I will take advantage of these quiet moments and make my to do list for the day and start my day.

    TO DO:

  • Organize the Bottom shelf in the office
  • Start on the Boy's Room
  • Wash Dishes

Not much on the list today.  I plan on just playing with the kids and reading my book.

    Have a joyous Christmas Day!

  • OOOPs.....hubby turned off the alarm clock and I slept in.  He thought I should not be getting up early on my vacation.  Well I kind of wanted to get up early and get stuff done, but he did it cuz he loves me.  So I slept in until 9:30 *gasp!!

SO I am now gonna try to get a quick shower in and dust and sweep my bedroom before Tommy wakes up.  I think he will be up any minute though since he went to bed so early last night.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas Eve.

  • Today seemed like a well balanced day for vacation.  The day really went fast though.  Tommy and I went to the mall to see Santa, but the line was so long@! There was no way he nor I could wait that long.  So we went to Mervyn's bought some socks for Erik and a winter hat for Tom.  Then we head to Once Upon A Child to buy some winter sleepers for Tommy, he is out growing everything again.

Then we were home for lunch and a nap.  During Tom's nap I did more laundry, paid bills, reconciled the checkbook and read the first 15 pages in a new book from the library, "The Sunday Wife".

Then Tommy woke up and we went to get a few groceries for the next couple of days.  We needed milk, etc.

Hubby made supper while I played with Tommy for a while.  We had supper then Tommy took a bath and got ready for bed.  Tommy for the first time even was in bed by 8:30 or so and down for the night.

WHEW!!  He only took one nap today, so now I had some "me" time after I did dishes and folded the last load of laundry.  I enjoyed a wonderfully long bubble bath with a mug of hot choclate and peppermint schappes, while reading some more of my book.   AAAH....so relaxing.  Now all the is left to do it head to bed after figuring out what I need to do tomorrow!

      • Go see Santa at mall - line was way too long for the little man!
    • Time for me to head to bed.  Even though I am on vacation I am going to try hard to stay on track.  I spent some wonderful "me" time after supper while Tommy was napping.   I sat in my bedroom listening to my book on tape and cross stitching.  Very relaxing.

Once Tommy got up we played for a while and just hung out.  That is my favorite time.  Joshua is having two of his buddies sleep over tonight.  Hubby took them to Blockbusters to rent a couple of DVD's.

I am off to bed to listen to my tapes and cross stitch some more.  Tomorrow is my weekly cleaning day, but I ended up doing a fair amount of cleaning today due to the party.  Hopefully I will get up early enough to get it all done before Tommy wakes up.   Otherwise my goal for tomorrow is to finally get caught up on laundry, if there is such a thing!

    • Almost time to go start supper, but thought I would stop in and say hi!  Today was a good day.  I have the house all back in order.  The dishes are washed, the floors mopped.  Though Erik already spilt juice since I mopped.  ARGH!!

Hubby just put Tommy down for this second nap of the day.  I plan on making Pasta with Alfredo sauce, salad and bread sticks for supper.

I am soooo excited hubby and I went to Menards and bought some laminate to re cover the counter in the bathroom down stairs.   I think I will try to do it.  I figure that hubby might decide to help and he sees me not doing it as perfect as he would like.  He is a huge perfectionist, but unmotivated lately.  I also want to paint the bathroom downstairs as well.  It should prove to be interested.  I also have to clean out the boys' room, mainly Erik's side of the room.  What a mess.

I feel like I have already accomplished a lot just by getting the laminate.  I am excited to start my project.

I am off to make some supper and relax a bit.  Tomorrow is another day!   Have a great one!

    • Morning....what a party last night!  It was great fun and long as always!  What a mess I have to clean up today!  There was a beer and one pop spilt in the living room and hot apple cider in the dining room spilt and sparkling grape juice all over the dining room tablecloth.   Dishes to wash for about 25 people.  So I will be busy this morning.

We still have treats left as well.  I am going to try and bake two more kinds of cookies yet too.  I just woke up at 9:30 so we missed church.  We were up until about 1:00 am last night.  We all played the game Taboo and stuff till late.  The little two boys got a number of new toys.  Erik's has a lot of pieces, so those are probably already gone.   Argh....it is just mayhem with all the cousins opening gifts at once.  We actually took a picture of all the grand kids together.  I hope it turns out ok.

I better scoot and take a shower and get cleaning.  I think we are going to try and go see Santa on Monday with Tommy.

    • Hello -

I am officially on vacation!  WOO HOO!  I didn't sleep in this morning as I need to get ready for our Extended family Christmas today.  I have to make some appetizers and 7-layer salad.

I am off to Sam's Club this morning and grocery store.   I have to get pop and stuff for tonight as well.

      TO DO:

      Clean off Dining Room Table
      Dishes
      Vacuum
      Make Appetizers

Move some of Tommy's Toys Downstairs

      ERRANDS:
      Sam's
      Bank
      Grocery Store

    • I stayed up too late again, but I finished my book.  Hmmm..I think I will have to go to the library and pick up a new book to read.  I have a couple on reserve.  I will have to do that tonight, after work.  The library is open later tonight.  So of course I didn't get to bed too early again...LOL!!  I think it was midnight when I put my book down and went to sleep.   I woke up this morning and read the last three pages to finish the book.

I will be busy at work today finishing up loose ends, WHY??  ONLY TWO DAYS OF WORK LEFT!!  YEAH!  Today my unit is going out for lunch to celebrate Christmas together.  I think I will go, we will see.  Sometime I skip it, but I think this restaurant is closer to the office.  I can't drive like all the way to Minneapolis to eat, etc....just seems like a waste to me.  I have a lot to get done at the office and I am on call.

I might try and do a bit of baking tonight, we will see.  I have a few things I would like to do yet.  Saturday is the big Christmas party at our house for hubby's side of the family.   SO I have to prepare for that.  I need to do some shopping yet.

Since Erik is here this weekend I think I will let him and Josh open their one present that they will share.  Santa brought one thing for the two of them to share, so I figure they better open this weekend or they can't open it until after Christmas when Erik is here again.

Hope everyone is having a great week!!  Later!
