Month: December 2002

  • Just some quick highlights of my day before I head off to bed.  I was able to stop by the library in the county I work and register my out of county library card.  YEAH!!  The county I work in has a number of books my library doesn't have and they seem to have more new titles on book on tape!  YEAH!!   So now I have two counties of books to pick from.  That is fun!

Tonight at Families First was the kids Christmas party.  It was a lot of fun.  The kids read a story and played a game.  They also had a pinata and received presents from their teachers.   Tommy is all over the classroom now, getting into everything.   While with the teachers he got into some paint and had it all over his pants.  ARGH...I am sure it is washable.

I am off for an early bedtime to read for a while.  I have been having a terrible time falling asleep, so hopefully an earlier reading time will help.   I hope to finish Big Stone Gap this week yet.  Later!

Only TWO more days of work left!!  I am so excited!!

  • I am officially ending my work day.  I was able to complete most of the paperwork for my meeting tomorrow.  I will have to do a bit more at the office tomorrow inbetween appointments since I didn't have all the needed file on my disk.  Argh...Oh well.

My work day is done and now it is time for bed!  I gave Tommy the Benadryl so I am hoping he will sleep better tonight.   Joshua is heading back to school tomorrow.

I hope this means that life is getting back to normal.   We will see how the night and morning goes...

I just have to keep reminding myself only 3 more days of work!!!!!!!

  • Since getting home from work I have accomplished my to do list.. I had a nice long nap.  WOO HOO!!   I am now gonna do some work for a meeting I have tomorrow, since I left a bit early from work.  I have about an hour or more to prepare for tomorrow so I better get going.

Only 3 more days at the office then..............VACATION!!

I am reading a new book that was reccomended by my families first group at church.  I am really enjoying it!  Later!

  • Today is a three bottle Mt. Dew day.  ARGH....very little sleep last night.  Tommy woke up at 1:00am and was coughing a lot and having trouble breathing.  I had just gone to sleep at about 11:00 or a bit later, so it was very hard to get up with him.  I brought him into bed with me and he just coughed, and coughed.  He had a bottle and cough syrup and snoozed a bit beside me.  I didn't sleep much as he likes to touch my face while I sleep.  Once he started to crawl over the bed, I put him back in his crib.  He went to sleep and woke again around 6:00 coughing and coughing.

I got up and made a Dr appointment.  We saw our Peds again this morning.  He said maybe the hives was related to whatever Tommy has now.  He listened to his chest and ordered x-rays of his lungs as he thought he might have walking pneumonia.  Argh...now that was a treat! NOT!!   Try to get a 1 year old sit still for an x-ray!  We only had to redo one of the x-rays, but it was difficult to say the least and Tommy was mad!

The Dr said that the x-rays looked fine.  He does have fluid behind one of his ear drums, but it isn't infected, YET.  ARGH!!   So we are pushing liquids and switching to giving him Bendryl at bedtime to help with sleeping.   I will still give him Triaminic during the day.  Argh...

Josh is still home today with the flu.  The Dr said a lot of that is going around.  I hope he will be able to go to school tomorrow.

Needless to say I am really, really tired.  I need to stay at work, since I only have 3.5 workings day left until I go on vacation.  I am also the on-call social worker this week.   But man, do I ever need a nap!  I should get home at a decent time today.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

    TO DO

    NAP!

  • Holiday newsletters are printing, but not sure I will get done tonight or not.  It says I am running low on ink.  ARGH!!  I was hoping I could just get these done and mailed.

It has been a busy evening.  I got home late from work.  Work is going to be pretty stressful for the next few months or years??  Our state has a huge deficit to balance.  Working for county Government of course that means huge cuts for us as well.  We have to cut our services to families by many, many millions of dollars.  ARGH!!  So all the budgets I just completed will need to be redone with cuts in funding.  I am not looking forward to that.  Most likely that also means no new social workers so our caseloads will grow and grow.  I just got two new cases this week already.  The whole situation is making me a but nervous, being the only breadwinner in our family.

I did get a bit of cleaning done tonight, but decided to hold off on mopping the floors since I am having Christmas here on Saturday for my hubby's side of the family.  I will mop the floor closer to the weekend.   I did make the Fudgy Mint Squares.  YUMMY.....they look very good.

Tomorrow is my day again to take Tommy to daycare, so I better go and get my stuff together so I can get out of here on time.  I want to head o bed early.  I just changed my sheets and I love nice, crisp clean sheets!!  WOO HOO....plus I need to finish my book.

KIDS UPDATE:  Josh still has a icky tummy.  Tommy has not had any hives for two days and counting!  Tommy still has a cough though.

  • It certainly is a Monday today!  We were not off to a very good start this morning.  Joshua was home sick.  It was my turn to take Tommy to daycare and I hadn't prepared stuff the night before so I was running around.  ARGH!!  Yes, the Flylady would scold me for not doing my bedtime routine.  I promise I will do it tonight.  ARGH!!  I got my baby to daycare and I forgot a bottle, but auntie Bonnie had one there for him.  Tommy was very excited to play with the kids.

I mailed about 1/2 of my Christmas cards this morning.  I need to just finish them up tonight.  I just checked on Josh and he is feeling ok, his tummy is still a bit upset.  He made himself a ham wrap for lunch.

Only 4 more days of work and I am on VACATION!!!  I am so excited!  I can't wait to spend the time home with the kids.  I plan on taking Tommy to see Santa on either Monday or Tuesday.  I have a long list of things I want to do while at home.  But mostly,  I just want to be with my kids.  I wish circumstances were such that I didn't have to work.

    Peppermint Pinwheels

¾ Cup Butter (no Substitutes), softened
    ¾ Cup Sugar
    1 Egg Yolk
    1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
    2 cups all-purpose flour
    ½ teaspoon baking powder
    ½ teaspoon salt
    ½ teaspoon peppermint extract
¼ teaspoon red liquid food coloring

In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar.  Beat in egg yolk and vanilla.  Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well.  Divide dough in half; add extract and red food coloring to one portion.

On a work surface, roll out each portion of dough between waxed paper into a 16in. x 10-in. rectangle.  Remove wax paper.  Place red rectangle over plain rectangle; roll up tightly jelly-roll style, starting with a long side.  Wrap in plastic wrap.  Refrigerate overnight or until firm.

Unwrap the dough and cut into ¼ in. slices.  Place 2 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheets.  Bake at 350 degrees for 12-14 minutes or until set.  Cool for 2 minutes before removing to wire racks to cool completely.   Yield: about 4 dozen.

  • Morning....the weekend is speeding by again.  How do I slow down life??   Yesterday was fine, we watch my three nephews while their parents wrapped gifts.   They were very good.   I played board games with the youngest two for a few hours.  We played Cranium Cadoo 4 times.  They likes that game.  Then when the baby got up I had them playing Stratego, but they were fighting a bit.  I was able to get the dishes washed and run to the grocery store to buy the stuff for the party this afternoon.  We ordered two large pizza's and the boys ate them all.  LOL!!  They eat more than my boys.  My oldest two boys are gone this weekend at visitation at their other parents homes.  I only managed to make a pan of fudge yesterday.   I still have a lot of baking I want to get done.

Today is very busy too.  We will be heading to church shortly.  There will be no Sunday nap for me after church this week   I have to get the Crab Dip going in the crock pot and make ham roll ups for our cookie exchange party.  I need to do a bit of cleaning too.   We have 8 ladies coming for the cookie exchange party.  So we should have a nice variety of treats for our Christmas party next weekend.
