Month: January 2005

  • Change of plans for the afternoon.   A snow storm is coming and it is snowing now and will snow all night.  So I figured it made more sense to get groceries today before the slush than tomorrow morning.   I did pretty good on my budget.  I bought nearly everything I need for the next two weeks and I spent 81.00.   I was a bit over my 75.00 budget a week, but I bought pop, which comes out of my fun money!  So all is good.  Next week I doubt I will be needing much in line of groceries so I will buy hamburger and chicken from Sam's with most of my weekly money.  I don't know what we would do without Aldi to cut down our food bill each month.  I can't wait until about 6 years alot of our loans and other monthly expenses will be done and we can finally begin living our lives instead of giving our money to others!

  • Today is the last official day of my vacation.   I go back to work on Monday.  I didn't nearly get as much done as I had hoped, but I did get a nice break from the stress of my job.  Today, I took Tommy to preschool and once I pick him up and drop him off at daycare I will finish up a few things around the house.

I need to get the Christmas Presents for South Dakota ready and I still have to make one.  I guess I will be doing that today.  I need to make my grocery list for tomorrow.  The budget is very tight again, so we will see if I can make it stretch.  My freezer is pretty full so I think I can.  I will also be wrapping the remaining presents.  I jsut went out last night and bought my parents present.   I hope to squeeze a nap in too.....I haven't had one all week :(

Yesterday I conquered the office/computer room.  I never go in there at all and it was a pit!  I have my laptop at the end of the dining room table and that is my office area.  I took two garbarge bags of papers and junk out of there.  Hubby has one grocery bag of things to burn too.   I went through all the office supplies and organized and weeded them out.   It is good enough for now.

Today I have to straighten my bedroom a bit and Tommy's ALOT!!!

Last night I went to Goodwill and found a larger crock to put my cooking utensils in.  I had been looking at stores and they wanted 15 to 25 dollars.  I jsut couldn't afford that.  I found one that will work fine for 2.99.   Much better.  We also found two work shirts for hubby.

I have already paid bills this monring,  I suppose I should get off the computer so I can clip coupons and make a shopping lsit before I have to pick up Tommy.   Have a great Day!!!

  • MAPLE APPLE OATMEAL

  • Trying to get motivated again.  Monday I kept Tommy home with me to spend time with him and really didn't get much done.  Hubby was off work too.   Tuesday I jsut was not in the mood to do anything so I didn't!

Today it is back to getting somethings done around here.  It is evident that I will not get everything done that I planned on vacation, but that is ok.   Gotta go warm up my truck and get Tommy to daycare.  Catch ya later!!!

  • Today is my actual birthday, but really don't have anything planned.  I am still on vacation and home alone for the time being.   I guess we will see.......

  • I am having a lousy weekend.......happy birthday to me.....blah, blah, blah...

  • Quiet evening at home.  I jsut made play-doh for Tommy to play with and he is enjoying that.  I am making some peanut butter choc. chip cookies and going to read the rest of the evening.  Will post these two recipes later!

  • I am home and the cooking session went very smoothly.   We had 13 people cooking and it seemed to go very fast.  Everyone really had a good time and I met some new Moms from the preschool.   I think I am going to take a nap though....I am tired.  Then I will probably make cookies with Tommy when he wakes up.   Not much else panned for the day.

  • I am awake and didn't sleep well.  I never sleep well when I have a big event planned.   I have the cooking session at church this morning.  I hope it goes smoothly.  I am going a 1/2 hour early to set up some things and organize in hopes it will go a bit more smoothly.  4 other committee members will be helping as well.   I am sure I have all the groceries, my friend is getting the hamburger and onions.   We are using 84 pounds of hamburger!  I hope she dropped the stuff off already as I will start cutting onions.  We have to chop 48 onions.

Everyone will leave with 7 meals for their families and we charged them 28.00 for the food.   We might have to ask for $2.00 more.  I am not sure what the finally grocery bill is.  But I still think this is very economical.   Pays to buy in bulk!

We really don't have anything planned for the weekend.  Hubby is taking the boys to the library this morning and probably to get Erik's hair cut.   Hubby hates when it is left to look so shaggy.  He is very particular.

Tommy has stayed dry for two days in a row at daycare.  He is wearing underwear all day.  He usually wets and poops in the evening at home.  Well time to get on with my day.  Later!

  • My shopping is almost done for the cooking event tomorrow!   I did forget two little things that I will pick up on the way to pick up Tommy.   I was done early in the morning and I took everything to the church already.  Since I had some time to kill I decided to take a look around Goodwill.  I rarely have time to ever go there and I forget it exists to be honest.  I don't know if everyone already knows this, but in our town Target and Old Navy donate their clearance items to Goodwill.  So I bought some shirts that were new from Target with tags still on them for $1.91.  It is funny because I have one of the sweaters in a different color and I paid 10.00 or more of it at Target.  LOL!!  I wish I knew what day of the week items come in from Target.   I really needed jeans and I won't pay alot for them since I only wear them on weekends.   I save all my money to buy work clothes.  Those I don't skimp on!!  As long as I have one nice pair of jeans for Friday's the rest don't matter and some of mine are pretty sad.  So I figured I would go in Goodwill and find some weekend jeans to get me through a few months!

I found two pairs of Tommy Hillfiger jeans in my size.  Actually this brand must run a bit large as the size 10 seems big to me and TRUST me I have not lost any weight.  I can wear a belt.   The tag on them said 8.99.  That is good for Tommy jeans...I will take them.  They rang up at 4.02.  WOO HOO!!   Two pairs of Tommy jeans in very good condition for a little of 8.00.  Good deal!

I also bought 3 weekend shirts.....all three new from Target.  Price ranging from 2.39 to 1.91.  Not bad.   I also found the cutest pair of shoes.  Marked..6.99....but way cute.  Sort of a lug heel brown tie shoe.   Great winter shoes.   Rang up at 1.27.  And I was debating if I should get them at 6.99!!!!!

I also hit pay dirt on books!!!   I really don't need books, but there were a ton of Oprah books and I LOVE TO READ!   I ususally only go to the library.  But for .99 cents a book how could I pass them up.

The following are the books I bought:

The South Beach Diet - ok...for 99 cents I will look at it!
The wonder of Boys - Michael Gurian
Vinegar hill - A. Manette Ansay
Daughter of Fortine - Isabel Allende
    Moira's Crossing - Christina Shea
The Liar's Club - Mary Karr
The Weight of Water - Anita Shreve
The Book of Ruth - Jane Hamilton
We wer the Mulvaneys - JOyce Carol Oates

Of couse when I got to the check out the books were also discounted so I ended up only paying 60 cents a book!    Should be a good pile for the winter.  There were more I wanted, but didn't want to spend too much!

I bought a few books and movies for Tommy too!   I can't believe what great finds I found.   But you really have to have the time to look!  The great things are few and far between!   I found one pair of pants for Erik and one for Tommy.  Kids clothes weren't great.   I also bought a Spiderman rain coat for Tommy.

Man do I love a good deal!!!  It was alot of fun hunting throught the store!
